Cover Photo: Pre-dawn Crescent Moon

The cover photo shows a pre-dawn crescent moon over the Fair Haven Heights section of New Haven, CT. The Grand Avenue Bridge and shoreline buildings are reflected beautifully in the still Quinnipiac River. While the foreground, showcasing the bridge and buildings’ reflection in the river, dominates the image, the genesis for and star of the photo is that morning's Crescent Moon. 

The Moon, our only natural satellite, is a perfect photographic subject. As a subject, the Moon can stand alone in the photo or act as an accent piece to enhance the image. 

Visible most days and available to all, it rises and sets on schedule as it moves across the sky, from the virtually invisible New Moon, growing to a bright Full Moon and waning back to New. The cycle then repeats itself about every 28 days.
